A Deeper Look into my Philosophy, Coaching style, and Education…

Hello! First of all, thank you for being here. It really means so much and I’m proud that you are putting in the time to change your life. You may be wondering about my coaching style and education.

Get to know a little bit about me and what im all about!

First, let’s start with what it means to be physically fit. I’ll cut to the chase- it’s more of a feeling than it is physical at all. Once I learned this key thing, fitness became integrated into my life and I don’t see it changing any time soon. I had learned the hard way that when I focused on the physical aspects of my goals versus intrinsic goals I was never satisfied. That is why my coaching is and will always be focused on your overall well-being. It’s ironic that when we focus on our inner feelings of physical well-being thoughts like this seep into our minds:

  • “I have so much more energy after I work out.”

  • “I am more grounded since I have been taking time out of my busy day just for me.”

  • “Movement doesn’t hurt like it used to.”

  • “I love the gym!!!”

Passion should be the driver of many things in life and exercising is a habit that literally “works out” that discipline into your everyday life. (See what I did there?!) But seriously, this is about more than looks!

Now that we’ve touched on the intrinsic (inner)goal-setting style of my coaching philosophy, we can move on to extrinsic (outward) goals. This is the part where you get your cake and eat it too. Much of starting out on your fitness journey revolves around a numeral/physical goal. Things like:

  • “I want to lose 30 pounds before my big wedding day”

  • “I have always been underweight and need help gaining pounds”

  • “I want to grow my biceps and I wanna have a big booty too”

  • “I am ready to become a healthier version of myself”

We will always start with planning 2 goals, intrinsic (inner) and extrinsic (outer/physical). I follow the SMART goal method, which I will describe in further detail in a future blog post. Just know, we are going to have super specific, step-by-step goals that are gonna get you where you need to be!!

Don’t be fooled- exercise takes work and consistency to see results. That’s why I stress inner well-being SO MUCH in the beginning. Typically seeing physical results in the gym follows this pattern:

  • 3 months for you to feel energized and happy (although this usually happens quicker!)

  • 3-5 months for you to notice changes in your body

  • 6-12 months for other people to notice your hard work

A little about my education, experience, and background…

Educations and certifications at first glance:

  • B.S. Exercise Science with a concentration in Exercise Scientific Foundations

  • Certified Personal Trainer (NASM)

  • Group Fitness Instructor (NASM)

Personality pic of course!

I am proud to say I recently graduated from Old Dominion University with a B.S. in Exercise Science with a concentration in Exercise Scientific Foundations. Many who graduate in my field continue on to physical therapy/athletic training graduate school, work in a clinical sports facility, or become personal trainers. Exercise science is a diverse field with many avenues post-graduation. My undergraduate studies are the basis of my coaching strategy when creating unique programs designed to fit your goals. I am also a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor through NASM.

What does furthering my education look like so I can coach you best?

I am currently working towards becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). This is a highly regarded certification within the fitness community that aligns with my resistance training style of coaching.
